Roy Arthur Juusola, age 98, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 2, 2017, at a nursing home in Easton, MA. Born on June 13, 1919 to the late Paul Artur and Pauline (Fors) Juusola in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
Roy grew up in Fitchburg and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He began working in Pennsylvania for Sylvania Corporation. It was there that he met and married Margaret E. Johanson on March 13, 1949 and began his family. They were married for 34 years until her death in 1983. His engineering career took him from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts to California and back to Massachusetts while raising his growing family of three children. In 1986, Roy married Sandra Quackenbush and remained living in the No. Attleboro/Plainville area. He retired from Carol Cable Company, Pawtucket, RI.
Roy was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, spending time with family and friends and taking saunas at his summer cottage on Vinton Pond in Townsend, MA. In his later years he spent his vacation time in Maine and loved driving the family waterski boat until age 92. He was a mason, North Attleboro’s interim town treasurer, an active member of the Cumberland Community Methodist Church, chairman of the missions and trustee boards.
Roy is survived by his devoted wife Sandra (Quackenbush) Juusola of, 31 years, his three children and their families: Marla and Wayne Whatmough, Robert and Vivian Juusola, John and Janet Juusola In addition, he is survived by three step-daughters and their families: Cynthia and James Hanifin, Barbara and Leonard Noll and Elizabeth and Donald Scott. Roy was the cherished “Papa” to eleven grandchildren: Sarah Juusola, Peter Juusola, Jessi Juusola Payne, Maxx Juusola, Alexa Whatmough, James Hanifin, Kristin Hanifin, David Noll, Peter Noll, Thomas Noll and Matthew Scott.
A memorial service will be held at on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017 at 2 PM in Cumberland Community Methodist Church, 481 Broad St, Cumberland, RI.
