Francis Flaherty

October 03, 1931 - June 04, 2017

Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather

Francis Xavier Flaherty, Sr., 85, a resident of Foxboro for 60 years, passed peacefully on June 4, 2017 in Norwood Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline R. Wentworth, with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Born in Boston on October 3, 1931, he was a son of the late John J. and Delia (Manion) Flaherty. Francis was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. He played semi pro football and hockey after high school. Francis then served his country proudly as a member of the US NavySeabees. He was a member of Local 4 Union of Hoisting and Portable Engineers and worked as a crane operator for many years prior to retirement. His job brought him to places as far as Trinidad and Iceland. Francis was an avid golfer and Bruins fan. He had a lifelong love of hockey. He and Jacqueline were longtime communicants of St.Mary’s Church.

In addition to his wife Jacqueline, Francis is survived by four children; Francis X. Flaherty, Jr. of Plymouth, Karen Marie Gleason of Virginia, Donna Jeanne Mooreshead of Norton, and Colleen Marie DiPietro of North Attleboro, seven grandchildren; Patrick, Shannon, Katie, Samantha, Courtney, Joe, and Jack. Also survived by a brother in law; William Wentworth of Derry, New Hampshire.

He was the brother of the late Sister Mary Concilia, John Flaherty, Evelyn Bechtel, and Theresa Woodsome,



Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, June 8th from 4 to 8 PM in the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 9th at 11:30 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 58 Carpenter Street, Foxborough. For additional information please contact 508 543-5471.
