Beloved Mother and Grandmother
Foxborough – Barbara Claire (West) Lightbody, age 93, passed away July 1, 2017 at the Victoria Haven Nursing Facility in Norwood. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Ruth (Waterman) West.
Barbara was born on April 11, 1924 in Mansfield. She was a life-long resident of Foxborough and was a graduate of Foxborough High School, Class of 1941. She then worked at John Hancock for three years prior to enlisting in the US Navy (WAVES) and enjoyed working mostly in the personnel office and setting up the sailors schedules. When the War ended, Barbara was discharged at Great Lakes and returned to Foxborough. She worked at the former Foxboro Company and married her late husband, Donald Lightbody on June 28, 1947
Barbara was a volunteer for over thirty years driving for FISH – taking people to doctor’s appointments and was a pink lady at Norwood Hospital. She was very active in the Foxboro Senior Center running the bridge club. Her favorite hobbies were playing bridge, playing tennis reading and traveling. Barbara most enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Beloved wife of the late Donald B. Lightbody. Loving mother of James and his wife Joann of Wrentham, and the late Alan Lightbody and Kathy Lightbody. Devoted grandmother of James, Stephen and Ryan Lighbody. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, July 28 from 4 to 7 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at the Union Church of South Foxborough, 384 South Street, Foxborough with the Rev. William Dudley officiating.
