Wrentham – Dorothea (Conkey) Allen, age 93, passed away peacefully at the Pond Home in Wrentham. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Eddy and Helen Viola (Ovans) Conkey.
Dot was born on November 13, 1923 in Boston. She was a graduate of Pawtucket East High School, Class of 1941, and Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, Class of 1945. She married her late husband Standish King Allen on June 30, 1949 at the Pawtucket Congregational Church. They were married for 66 years.
Dot taught English at Moses Brown School in Providence, at Dedham Country Day School, and in the Mansfield, Franklin, and Foxborough public school systems. She sang in the Bethany Congregational Church Choir for many years and was part of the Bell Choir at Church of The Palms in Delray Beach, Florida. She was also a member of the Optimist Club of Mansfield and the Monday Club of Foxborough. In addition, she served as president of the Pond Home Board of Trustees and Church of The Palms Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and spending summers with her family in Mattapoisett.
Beloved mother of Standish K. Allen, Jr. and his wife Kathryn of Virginia, Bradford W. Allen and his partner April of Norwood, Frederick B. Allen and his wife Karen of Belchertown, and William M. Allen and his wife Joan of Pennsylvania. Devoted grandmother of Corinne and Emily, Ursula and Colin, Nathaniel and Chelsea, and Nicole and Christopher. Great-grandmother of Aiden, Peter, and Evelyn. Sister of the late Robert W. Conkey and the late David L. Conkey.
The family will have a private memorial service at the Barton Chapel of Bethany Congregational Church in Foxborough. Interment to follow at Rock Hill Cemetery, Foxborough.
